Following the success of the revamped FIFA Club World Cup underway in the USA, football heavyweight Brazil have expressed interest in the next edition of the 32-team tournament in 2029.
Newly elected president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Samir Xaud at a meeting with FIFA President Gianni Infantino on the sidelines of the tournament in Miami made clear the intentions of the South American country.
“It all started with a presentation conversation. I talked about my goals at the head of the CBF and said that we want to be closer to FIFA. I praised the event and the level of Brazilian clubs and, finally, I made the country available to host the next World Cup. President Gianni Infantino was very happy, he said it's totally possible. Now let's work to make it work. It's going to be a great goal,” said Xaud.
The Club World Cup is in its first edition, with the participation of 32 teams from all corners of the planet. So far, Brazilian football, which has more representatives in the competition - Botafogo, Flamengo, Fluminense and Palmeiras - has been doing well, with great performances and great results from the four teams.
Xaud is in the USA to honour the event and the Brazilian clubs. He has participated in meetings with the world football summit to strengthen ties and discuss important agendas for the future of football, always reinforcing CBF's commitment to FIFA.
Brazil, due to host the next edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027 has become synonymous with global sporting competitions in recent times.
They hosted the 2014 FIFA World Cup as well as the Olympic Games in 2016, both ending in resounding successes.
