A three-member contingent of the Ghana Table Tennis Association are currently in China to participate in the 2025 ITTF sponsored High Performance programme for young talents.
The team, comprising Joanita Borteye and Israel Aklie, with Cynthia Kwabi as head of delegation, will take part in the elite training programme from December 4th to 13th, 2025, at the Chengdu National key table tennis training school in Chengdu.
Israel and Joanita who are both on the Olympic Solidarity Youth Athlete Development Programme, will be receiving support from the ITTF with targeted training programmes in preparation for competitions and tournaments.
The programme is a significant opportunity for Ghana's young table tennis talents, providing them with world-class training and exposure to international competition. As part of the ITTF leadership Programme, Cynthia Kwabi will also participate in the special pathway for female table tennis leaders, further enhancing her skills and knowledge in the sport.
The leader of the Ghana Table Tennis Association, Mawuko Afadzinu, expressed his enthusiasm about the invitation, stating, "This rarefied invitation is a significant opportunity for the nation, and for the participating players and officials, as the Global Youth training camp is an elite super high-performance training programme for the best global prospects in table tennis.
"The association is optimistic that the training will help the young talents to improve their skills and continue to compete at the international level".
The trip facilitated, coordinated and made possible by the Ghana Table Tennis Association is committed to developing the sport in the country, and this programme is a testament to their efforts.
The contingent's participation in the programme is expected to raise the profile of table tennis in Ghana and inspire other young players to take up the sport.
